Today is Öskudagur (Ash Wednesday) and the children all over Iceland dress up in costumes.
These are just the day costumes. In Vík (a very small village on the south coast of Iceland) the children use two costumes on Öskudagur. One in the morning when they go around the town singing for candy, and one much more elaborate on in the evening when they attend a masked dance where there is a (fierce) competition for the best costume.
